Job Description
The Georgia Department of Public Health is the lead agency entrusted by the people of the state of Georgia with the ultimate responsibility for the health of communities and the entire population.

The Prevention, Screening and Treatment Deputy Director is responsible in achieving a team-based environment that supports research, evaluation, and program delivery excellence through support of communities and health districts in order to reduce the burden of chronic disease and cancer in the State of Georgia.

Reports directly to the Chronic Disease Prevention Section Director, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the Director in achieving a team-based environment that supports research, evaluation, and program delivery excellence in early detection, screening and treatment in order to reduce the burden of chronic disease and cancer in the State of Georgia. Serves as a key member of the management team for the section, the purpose of which is to improve health outcomes for Georgians in the areas of cancer, chronic disease, teen pregnancy, and heart disease and stroke.

Job Responsibilities
Leadership

Collaborates with internal and external program staff and partners to develop, recommend and implement approaches to improve access to breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening and cancer treatment.
Serves as a member of the CDP Section Management team, which supports the Director and Department in defining the program’s strategic direction, objectives and operational plan to ensure consistent, high quality research, evaluation, and program delivery. Serves as critical subject matter expert on working with clinical health care providers and promoting adherence to evidence-and guidelines based clinical services, as well as reimbursement for those services.
Builds and supports positive working relationships with the Commissioner’s Office, other Sections, and funders around breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening, cancer treatment, and tobacco cessation, particularly the development, dissemination, and adoption of best practice strategies for the healthcare community.

Management
Supervises administrative, programmatic, and policy staff in the Office. Develops performance plans and monitors staff performance.
As delegated in the Section Director’s absence, leads and manages the Section.
Collaborates with peers, staff and Director to ensure the provision of statewide monitoring, technical assistance and support to local public health districts in the provision of breast and cervical cancer screening.
Develops scopes of work and monitors contracts and expenditures related to programs within the Office.
