Assistant Attorney General

Salary:  $60,000

Location:  Atlanta

Duties & Responsibilities
Attorneys in this section represent state government entities in employment-related litigation in both federal and state courts, advise clients across state government on a variety of employment matters including application of Georgia laws, rules of the State Personnel Administration and federal laws relating to discrimination and retaliation in employment and wage and hour.  Client contact is extensive, as is discovery and motions and brief writing.  Some travel is required.

Minimum Training & Experience
Member of the Georgia Bar AND graduation from an accredited law school.  Preference will be given to applicants with 3 or more years of litigation experience, to include discovery and motions practice.

Legal Secretary

Salary: $34,000 minimum Annual

Location:  Atlanta


Solicitor General Unit – Deputy Solicitor General (Federal)

Annual Salary: Commensurate with experience

Location:  Atlanta

Duties & Responsibilities:
Position will serve as the Solicitor General’s primary advisor for federal appellate matters. These matters include, but may not be limited to: federal appellate matters pertaining to Law Department clients; merits cases in the United States Supreme Court; petitions for certiorari, and briefs in opposition to petitions for certiorari in the United States Supreme Court; federal multi-state litigation; amicus briefs in federal courts of appeals and the United States Supreme Court; and development of appellate strategy for trial-level cases of state or national importance. Position researches and drafts briefs independently, AND works in collaboration with attorneys in the SG Unit and the Department to achieve the best possible appellate advocacy for the Department. Position will also play a key role in reviewing and editing federal appellate briefs.
The position will be expected to contribute to the overall work of the office, which will also include working on state appellate or other matters.
Minimum Training & Experience:
Member of the Georgia Bar or bar pending AND graduation from an accredited law school.  Federal judicial clerkship or state appellate clerkship, or equivalent experience; trial and appellate litigation experience; exceptional legal research, writing, and editing skills, as well as demonstrated experience in drafting briefs; ability to work collaboratively with other Unit attorneys as well as Department attorneys.
Preference will be given to applicants who have federal appellate clerkship, and/or five (5) or more years of trial and appellate litigation experience, which may include any judicial clerkship experience.

Legal Administrative Assistant I

Salary: $34,000 MINIMUM Annual

Duties & Responsibilities
WE ARE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION; once there is a Department vacancy, applications are reviewed; applicants are contacted via email. Only persons who meet the preferred qualifications of a specific vacancy will be contacted for an interview. Under limited supervision, position provides administrative and clerical support to attorneys within a Section. Duties include but are not limited to: using advanced word processing skills to edit and prepare legal documents, preparing files for submission to court(s), opening & closing case files, responding to and routing telephone calls, using legal related software to document attorney work & time, maintaining time & leave records for attorneys; maintaining case files, etc.; performs other duties.

Minimum Training & Experience
One year of legal secretary experience; demonstrated experience utilizing Microsoft Office applications in a legal envirnoment. Ability to type 40 words per minute (wpm). Preferred Qualifications: Additional years of legal, administrative experience.  Specific experience as needed by the vacancy.
