Campus Police Officer

Salary: $28.00 per hour

Location: Fulton County

Description

Performs specialized police work in protecting life and property, preventing violations, enforcing laws and regulations on college property and apprehending violators within police jurisdiction.  Patrols campus areas on foot or by motorized vehicle; issues citations and warnings.  Directs traffic and enforces traffic laws and regulations.  Maintains watch over buildings and grounds; checks doors and windows.  Observes and /or investigates suspicious actions or persons, and dangerous or defective conditions.  Reports and investigates accidents, vandalism, thefts, and fire.   Gives directions and other information to the public as requested.  Maintains records of accidents and investigations.  Supports students, faculty, and staff on matters regarding campus regulations.  Investigates traffic accidents, questions drivers and witnesses, and assists injured; records pertinent data describing scene and circumstances.   Ability to meet the qualifying standard established for POST positions.  Applicants must also successfully pass the pre-employment process and meet other requirements for certification as a peace officer by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST).   Applicants must meet the following medical standards: Vision of 20/60 uncorrected in each eye, and corrected vision to 20/40 or better in both eyes with glasses or contact lenses.  Ability to read, and write reports, comprehend and respond to business correspondence, and instructional materials; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, managers, and the general public; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of both concrete and abstract ideas. Although certified officers will be employed in an “off-duty” capacity from their respective agencies, officers must be uniformed and actively employed by a law enforcement agency with jurisdiction and powers of arrest within the boundaries of the physical property of Atlanta Technical College.  Shifts for individual officers will be coordinated through the Atlanta Technical College Department of Public Safety and Security.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or GED and be Georgia POST certified.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable knowledge of standard police practices and procedures. Considerable knowledge of first-aid and fire prevention techniques.  Effective oral and written communications skills.  Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.  Ability to conduct investigations and prepare reports. Ability to enforce campus regulations.

WORK SCHEDULE: Must be able to work a flexible schedule. 

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED AND successful completion of Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.


Campus Police Officer

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Location:  Habersham

Description

Performs various assigned duties to maintain security and safety of students, employees, and visitors on the Clarkesville campus. Proficiency in Windows applications, Word, Excel, and job-related software programs. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing effectively with the public.

Duties include:
Patrol campus; ensure security of doors, windows, and gates
Direct traffic during special events; provide security for events
Position requires knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations; ability to handle crises according to established guidelines; ability to complete reports; knowledge of basic computer skills; and ability to work a flexible schedule
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma /GED
Graduation from a P.O.S.T. Certified Georgia Police Academy
Must have and continue to maintain P.O.S.T Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
Work experience as a P.O.S.T. certified police officer in a college setting

Certified Police Officer – Multiple Vacancies

Salary: $31,200.00
Location: Chatham | Savannah | Liberty | Effingham

Description

Savannah Technical College is seeking an experienced individual to serve as Police Officer.  The Police Officer is responsible for providing safety, emergency response, and security services throughout the campus areas. Must be able to work at any of the STC campus locations to accommodate business needs.  Will regularly travel between campuses and may assist with intercampus communications.

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and Local laws/regulations.
  • Ability to differentiate between colors.
  • Ability to interact socially and work well with others.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations according to established guidelines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Available to work weekends, day, evening and morning shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Georgia P.O.S.T. certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted computer programs for report writing, incident        tracking, traffic studies, and compilation of incidents.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good public relations.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice, Accounting, Sociology, or related field.
  • Training in Homeland Security.
  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurability required.
  • Three years paid work experience as a P.O.S.T. certified police officer within the last five years.

Physical Demands:

Requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, crouching, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.  The work is performed in campus buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionally exposed to cold or inclement weather.  The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. This position is subject to exposure to extreme and possibly life threatening conditions. Position subject to pre-employment drug testing, physical and psychological examination.  Due to the high-risk nature of this position, employees in this capacity are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.

Salary/ Benefits:

Starting salary is $31,200.  Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
